Step 4: Hoisting and Scanning with the Crane Pod

1. Verify the hotspot is still active and the drone is still connected to the controller. 
2. Verify that the NTRIP credentials are indicated in green (successful connection)

And the RTK icon at the top of the screen is white

Verify that RTK reception and standard deviation info are available

An RTK connection is critical as it provides additional accuracy to the images which will result in a more accurate verification. Images taken without an RTK connection can result in a less accurate digital twin which is unable to achieve the tolerances required for the project.

Tip: When attempting to achieve an RTK lock, keep the pod away from the core or other tall vertical elements as these can block the RTK signal. 

3. Verify again that the box is locked. 
4. Report to the crane operator the proper ASL to hoist to and verify it on the remote control. 
5. Start timed photos by pressing the 2s button. 

Tip: As the pod is being lifted, verify that the deck is visible in the camera view.  If it does not become visible, try calibrating the drone again to ensure the camera is facing the deck.  

6. Verify that the scan pattern is fulfilled. 

This can be monitored on the drone remote during the scan by clicking on the “map view” in the bottom left corner of the screen. 

The scan plan has been created to cover the entire pour area. A deficient capture can result in partial coverage of the deck leading to incomplete verification. 

Post Scan

1. Guide the pod when lowered by hand and take the pod off the crane hook. 
2. Turn the controller and the drone off.
3. Close the box’s port cap.
4. Place the lens protector back on the camera.
5. Remove the slings and place them back in the box.
